Itinerary details

The Golden Circle consists of three major attractions; Þingvellir National Park, Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss waterfall. In addition we will visit the historic place Skálholt and Kerið crater. You will have plenty of time to take in the magnificent landscape and history there is to be found at each location.

We pick you up at your accommodation at 8:30(or by request) and drive towards the southern part of the country.

Our first visit is Þingvellir National Park (e. Thingvellir), Iceland’s protected national shrine. Þingvellir is strongly rooted in the history of the Icelandic nation for numerous reasons. The first Althing (e. parliament – literally meaning the all thing, or general assembly) over a thousand years old was established here around 930. This is also where the North-American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart continuously dividing the island. The history of Þingvellir is endless and some major events in the history of Iceland have taken place here. Þingvellir was inscribed to the UNESCO World heritage list in 2004.

Now we move on to Skálholt, an ancient bishop seat in South Iceland and one of Iceland’s most important historical site. For more than 700 years it was an episcopal seat and center of culture and education. The country’s first bishop was ordained here in 1056 and the first official school was founded.

Then we visit Gullfoss waterfall, the Golden Falls. Gullfoss is one of the most powerful waterfalls in Iceland and a part of the glacial river Hvítá, where it cascades 32 meters into a narrow crevice called Hvítárgljúfur. Gullfoss waterfall is not only known for its breathtaking power but also the rainbows that are thrown from its spray on a bright sunny day.

Next up is Geysir hot spring area that lies within the Haukadalur valley. The area is filled with steam and magical geothermal phenomena and is named after the biggest geyser called Geysir which is now mostly dormant. The most active geyser at the moment is called Strokkur blasting out a column of boiling hot water every few minutes and sometimes more than 20 metres into the air.

Our last stop is at Kerið volcanic crater.

There may be room for extra stops during this tour depending on your time schedule.

Lunch stop(not included) is at local restaurant. You can also choose to bring lunchbox from your hotel or we can stop for refreshments on the way.

Afterwards we will drop you off at your accommodation.
